History:
We are in a historic building constructed in 1876 by John Bryson. For many years this spot ran as "Crail's Dry Goods". In 1926 a major remodel was completed and it ran as "JC Penny". Another renovation completed by Historical Preservation, LLC in 2005 has the building tastefully split into several types of occupancy. The top floor is living space, the ground level has offices with a retail shop facing the square, and the lower level is JP's.
This entire building was intensely renovated. In my space, the original tin ceilings were removed, double layers of fire-code drywall was installed, and the tin was put back up. An excavation unit was brought in to dig out for restrooms and other code requirements. Many original elements remain, including an exposed northern foundation. After this work was completed this spot ran as a prohibition era cocktail bar called "The Soup Kitchen". This original vision paved the way for what now exists. A second attempt at a bar & live music venue was called "The 207 Nightclub". It ran briefly, and did not have a vision for food.
